The Mortuary Collection (2019)
Hannah R. Loyd, Clancy Brown.
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A horror anthology consisting of four stories told by an eccentric mortician to a young potential employee.
The Mortuary Collection is very much a throwback horror anthology in the style of 'Tales from the Crypt'. The format will be very much familiar to, and appreciated by, fans of the genre seeking a nostalgic experience. Those brought up on mainstream horrors from the 21st century though will likely find the storytelling slightly random and offbeat.
The Mortuary Collection is a collection of four short 'horror' (I use this term loosely for one or two of them) stories told by the creepy Mortician to his prospective young employee, with an overriding 'frame story' around them. The segments start off a bit weak, but thankfully in our opinion get progressively stronger (and darker) resulting in an extremely satisfying conclusion.
The Mortuary Collection is a very solid addition to the Horror Anthology genre, surpassing any we have seen in the format for at least ten years (let us know if we've missed any good ones!). The acting isn't the strongest, but is in keeping with the tone of the film. If you are thinking of giving up after fifteen minutes, we urge you to keep going as the best is yet to come.
